I’m a founder, data scientist, and builder. I like solving hard problems with technology products and data.
I’m currently building PortexAI, a platform that improves AI observability and real-world performance. Previously, I worked at Coin Metrics (acq.) as the Head of CM Labs, an elite data engineering and research unit. Before that, I cofounded DAR, one of the first data companies in the crypto industry building market monitoring datasets and feeds.
I love studying how new technologies evolve under the pressures of Goodhart’s Law, and designing data products to counter them. It’s been quite a ride witnessing this in crypto, IoT and now AI. I firmly believe this is one of the most exciting times to be alive.
Some fun facts. I’m Brazilian-American. I was born in Brazil and moved to NYC in my late teens. I started using Bitcoin as a better way to send money across borders at a time when no bank would take me, and fell in love with the technology. Over the years, I’ve built data products that have allowed me to identify 51% attacks in major crypto networks [1, 2]. I also used data to shed light on some of the most important questions about Bitcoin’s long-term security and hardware dynamics. In 2022, I found the first verifiable evidence of fraud at FTX (featured on WSJ and later used by prosecutors) and got used to 80-hour weeks. That same month, GPT-3.5 came out and allowed me to have a better relationship with my sleep schedule. Not quite like in Her (2013), but my love for the helpful assistant was real. I‘m now dedicated to improving our understanding of AI with better evals, metrics, benchmarks, and datasets.
